Our generative AI policy
Editor's note as of 2026-07-25, updated last 2026-08-06: We're working towards a general policy regarding gen AI usage across Recap Time Squad projects like this, so this is interim at the moment for the newsletter while working through it behind the scenes. Currently we don't use gen AI tools just yet but we're documenting how we may use it below for transparency if we do in the future.
We may use gen AI tools to help with researching things that happening in the fandom (y'all looking at with the block button armed and locked) and for proofreading but the final call lays on the Updates Radio Crew, more specifically Andrei Jiroh. If we do use them under these purposes, an gen AI use disclosure notice will be shown on the top of the issue in question for transparency and accountability purposes, alongside a link to the archived copies of the transcript between the model and us and any artifacts it generated. We will not intend to use gen AI tools as a substitute for human writing (maybe just for grammar checking and finding appropriate words/alternative word usage) or for making cover photos or do AI art since most of the fandom are against the use of generative AI for art due to reasons relating to copyright and how the training data are collected and used by frontier labs. We may reject community submissions that have substantive and blatant AI use (around 50-60% (but can be as low as 35-40%) of the work in question), disclosed or not either within the post itself or through metadata and watermark tooling from AI tools, for inclusion in future issues at our discretion.
If you believe that something slipped through the cracks or we flagged a false-positive, please contact us through the details below so we can sort them out. We don't want to rely too much on AI detection tools for moderation purposes even though some of them rely more on model-based heuristics rather than the embedded metadata (aka C2PA and/or EXIF metadata that Meta been using to flag AI-generated content in most cases) and invisible AI watermarks and currently rely on both self-disclosures, metadata/watermarks in the content itself and community flagging to minimize issues with false positives and negatives.
